Where to invest 70k

I have recently inherited £70k and I am not sure what to do with it.

I have my own house which is currently mortgaged but I want to try and invest it for the future.

What should I do with the money? My money looks like it will devalue if I put in in a savings account.

The standard answer a few years ago would have been, stick it in a buy to let but things have now changed and the government seems to be anti buy to let.

OP have you got any debt? I would pay that all off first and see what you have left.

I don't have any debts apart from the Mortgage, and that is on such a low rate I am in no rush to pay if off.

If you haven't already pay as much into an ISA as possible.

Thanks for the advice. I have filled up me and the Mrs 20k ISA allowance. Still have 30k left so have put 10k in a "high" interest savings account which I can get to quickly. Still looking for a home for the remaining 20.
