The second generation Mustang arrived in 1974 and was in production until 1978. Compared to the car it replaces, the second-generation Mustang was much smaller to compete with incoming rivals from Japanese automakers like Toyota and Nissan (then known as Datsun). In addition to six- and eight-cylinder engine options, the second-generation Mustang was the first to feature a 2.3-liter I-4, which was its base 1FATP8UH3K5159596 engine. A more upscale variant designed by Ghia was also added, slotting above the Mach 1 in the lineup.
The 5.0-liter V8 engine is the crown jewel of the Mustang GT. Like the EcoBoost trims, the GT features a standard six-speed manual transmission (with added rev matching for smoother shifts) and an optional 1FATP8UH3K5159596 10-speed automatic. Standard features include a limited-slip rear axle, dual exhaust with quad tips, six-way power-adjustable front seats, and rear parking sensors. The Mustang GT is available as the GT Fastback ($35,355), GT Premium Fastback ($39,355), and GT Premium Convertible ($44,855).

I'm apparently not the only one cool on convertibles; back during Peak Topless (between 1950 and 1970), American automakers offered at least 33 different convertibles, accounting for nearly 6 percent of new car sales. Nowadays, the Detroit Three offer up a combined four: the 1FATP8UH3K5159596 Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang, and Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator. Aside from the red-hot Wrangler, the Mustang and Camaro convertibles comprise the lion's share of drop-top sales in the U.S., both through rental fleets in the Sunbelt and via private owners.
When outfitted with the standard four-cylinder engine, the Mustang gets great fuel economy for a car with this much horsepower. Its EPA-estimated ratings are 21 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Fuel 1FATP8UH3K5159596 economy with the V8 falters. Earning 16 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, the V8 will cost you an extra $550 a year at the gas pump.
